For more than four decades, the Women and Infants Research Foundation has attracted doctors, researchers, leading health professionals, corporate supporters and volunteers, all united in their passion to improve health outcomes for women and infants. WIRF’s founding vision is to better understand the complex health problems faced by women and their babies and improve their prognosis.
WIRF focus our programs and research on the prevention of preterm birth, gynaecological cancers and women’s mental health. We are a world-leader in preventing preterm birth.
But what is preterm birth, why is it so important, and why should we as communities care about preventing it? Worldwide 15 million babies are born preterm each year and for one million of these, the day they are born is the day they die. Preterm birth is the single greatest cause of death and disability in children up to five years of age in the developed world.
Preventing early birth was thought to be an unachievable goal and that medicine could only begin at birth. However, what was once nothing more than a researcher’s dream, has now become a reality.
Mike and Hang With a Star are very proud to be helping support such an incrdedible charity, carrying out important research that is helping women and children worldwide . Please get involved, make a contribution to support their work and be in with a chance to win this amazing prize.
